Junior Squash
Our Junior Squash lessons are all about defining and building technique, and gaining confidence around the court. We use the traditional methods of drills and demonstration to coach, teach and develop shots, movement and game-play. We also like using playing patterns, starting with closed exercises until they’re second nature. These are then progressed to give players more options and shots in a game situation, until the learning is open and flowing.
Video can also be used as a teaching tool during some of these sessions as a form of self-analysis. Each player is encouraged to create their own Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) plan so that they can learn to train to their potential.
We don’t only work on squash technique in our coaching. Softer skills such as nutrition, fitness and goal-setting are also an important part of the Junior Squash classes.
Game-play features heavily in these sessions in the form of conditioned games (and of course the universal favourite ‘three-quarters’), and once the players approach the age of 10 or so they are encouraged to take part in local tournaments.
Hard work always pays off
With progress and improvement comes success, and some of the juniors been invited to participate on provincial and national squads. They are also enjoying the experience of travelling to international tournaments.
